Ingredients

  • 4 cups water for brewing tea
  • 4 black tea bags standard single-cup bags
  • 4 cups pasteurized nonalcoholic apple cider 946 ml, chilled; not vinegar or hard cider
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice 30 g; pasteurized for higher-risk guests
  • ice for serving

Equipment

  • 1 Saucepan
  • 1 Pitcher at least 2 1/2-quart capacity

Method

  1. Bring 4 cups water to a boil in a saucepan. Remove from the heat, add the tea bags, cover, and steep 4–5 minutes, or follow the tea package. Remove the bags.
  2. Let the tea cool about 15 minutes. Stir in cold cider and lemon juice, then transfer to a clean food-safe pitcher with at least 2 1/2-quart capacity. Do not pour very hot tea into non-heatproof glass.
  3. Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour until cold. Stir before serving, divide into 8 portions of about 1 cup, and pour over ice. Keep extra tea refrigerated and use within 24 hours for best quality. Refrigerate within 2 hours, or 1 hour above 90°F.

Notes

Contains caffeine unless prepared with decaffeinated tea, which still may contain some caffeine. Use pasteurized cider, not hard cider or apple cider vinegar. Nutrition is estimated per one-eighth batch using the Musselman cider label; other brands differ. Saturated fat and fiber are omitted because the cider label does not quantify them.
