Ingredients

  • 1 cup water for brewing
  • 2 unsweetened chai black tea bags standard single-cup bags; not latte powder
  • 1 cup whole milk 244 g
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup 20 g

Equipment

  • 1 Heatproof jug
  • 1 Small saucepan
  • 1 Whisk
  • 2 Mugs at least 10 fluid ounces

Method

  1. Bring the water to a boil. Pour it over the 2 chai tea bags in a heatproof jug, cover, and steep 4–5 minutes, or follow the tea package. Remove the bags.
  2. While the tea steeps, warm milk in a small saucepan over medium-low heat for 3–4 minutes until steaming, not boiling. Remove from heat and whisk briskly for light foam. If using a frother, keep its head submerged; never shake hot milk in a sealed jar.
  3. Stir maple syrup into the tea. Divide between 2 mugs, add milk evenly, and spoon any foam over the top. Serve at a comfortable drinking temperature. Refrigerate any extra within 2 hours, or 1 hour above 90°F, and use within 24 hours for best quality.

Notes

Contains milk and caffeine. Nutrition is estimated per half batch using generic brewed black tea as a proxy for the strained unsweetened chai infusion; tea blends and extraction vary. Milk and maple syrup are included in full.

This version uses maple syrup, whole milk, and a more concentrated tea base, removes the bags, and omits the optional cinnamon topping.
